How to Keep Your Fresh Bouquet Lasting Longer

There’s nothing better than getting a fresh bouquet and filling your home with that soft floral scent. The only sad part is watching the flowers fade after just a few days. But with a little care, you can keep them looking beautiful much longer.
Start with a clean vase
It sounds simple, but it makes a huge difference. Bacteria build up fast, and dirty water is one of the main reasons flowers wilt early. Wash your vase well with warm water and soap before arranging your bouquet.
Trim the stems properly
Before placing the flowers in water, cut 2–3 cm off the stems at an angle. This helps them absorb water more easily. Use sharp scissors or a knife instead of crushing the stems. Re-trimming them every couple of days also helps extend their life.
Remove leaves under the water
Leaves sitting in water rot quickly and create bacteria. Keep the stems clean below the waterline so the water stays fresh longer.
Change the water regularly
Fresh water is everything. Replace it every two days and rinse the vase if possible. Room-temperature water works best for most flowers. If your bouquet came with flower food, use it. If not, a tiny bit of sugar and a few drops of white vinegar can help.
Keep flowers away from heat and sun
Direct sunlight, radiators, kitchen heat, or even fruit bowls can make flowers fade faster. A cooler spot in the room is always better.
Mist delicate flowers
Hydrangeas, lilacs, and other soft blooms love a little extra moisture. A light mist over the petals in the morning helps them stay fresh and full.
At Flowers Theory, we carefully select fresh flowers that are made to last. With proper care, most bouquets can stay beautiful for 7–14 days, sometimes even longer.
